Must-Have Beauty Products (Brown-Girl Friendly)
Compared to way back when I used to attend high school, I’m not much of a makeup fanatic. But, when it comes to special events, best believe, your girl will pop off! This is simply out of personal preference. I like the natural look on me and honestly, I don’t feel the desire to glam up every morning. I’m usually all set with lipgloss, blush, and a cute outfit.
Though I don’t wear makeup much nowadays, I do care about what kind of products I put on my face, and having high-quality products is a priority for me. When I used to financially depend on my parents, I wasn’t able to divulge in such top-tier products as I do now but now that I can, I have noticed drastic differences and improvements in my makeup. Below is a list of holy grail beauty products that are, of course, brown-girl friendly:
Luckily, I have not experienced much severe acne in the past. However, my skin chemistry has changed throughout the years. My skin went from normal combination to dry. The lack of moisturizer in my skin feels worse during the summer. After many tests and trials, I finally found the one moisturizer that I will most likely forever use. I admit, Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream is so expensive😫but it is worth the price. It’s super light, yet it manages to make my face feel like it’s being embraced by cool aloe gel. Not to mention, a little goes a long way so even though it’s expensive, you know one container is going to last you a while. The only drawback I’d say is the packaging. I prefer products in pump bottles but this moisturizer requires you to dig in with your fingers to scoop. While this isn’t totally ideal, I would still continue to purchase this product and recommend it to friends. To avoid bacteria and unsanitary shit in my product, I always make sure to wash my hands with soap or at least sanitize before I start to dig in.
Many years ago, I was obsessed with finding dupes of high-end products and you may know this already but almost every beauty guru swears the Maybelline Fit Me Concealer is almost identical to the Nars Concealer. Sorry to break it to ya, but I highly disagree. While the Maybelline Fit Me Concealer is okay, it stands nowhere near the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer. But then again, whether or not you like it will depend on your preference. Personally, I love the natural, airbrush look and that’s usually what I go for every time and this concealer is able to help me reach that kind of look. It’s super creamy, extremely blendable, and you can build it up to give your skin high coverage. What I really love about it is that it is very lightweight that sometimes I even forget that I’m wearing makeup in the first place. I don’t know about you but I absolutely despise the feeling of caked-up, heavy makeup on my skin.
Kid you not, but I’ve been using the SAME bronzer since high school (and of course, it’s not the same product silly; I restocked). Before you assume that I’m being biased, I do want to point out that I have experimented with many different kinds of bronzers, and honestly, nothing stood out to me as much as the Too Faced Chocolate Bronzer. Considering I have a warm, brown complexion, I’m not that lucky when it comes to finding the perfect products that suit my skin tone. Like most products I’ll describe here, it’s lightweight and super blendable. And do not even get me started on the smell GIRL. For brown-girl chocolate lovers like me, this product is screaming your name!
Rare Stay Vulnerable Glossy Lip Balm (Nearly Muave)
When I first heard that Selena Gomez opened her own makeup line, I SCREAMED! She’s always been an inspiration of mine ever since I was a little girl. Her song, Who Says, really helped me get through all the bullying I used to go through. Also, if my girl is starting her own makeup line, OF COURSE, I am going to support her all out.
I have yet to run into a product of hers that I didn’t like but I got to say that one of my favorites so far is her Stay Vulnerable Glossy Lip Balm in shade, Nearly Muave.
On some random, lazy day, I found myself scrolling through Facebook Reels or YouTube Shorts (I wish I could remember but I don’t) and I ran into this beautiful brown woman raving up the kind of lip products that’ll help us reach the kind of natural pink look that is often hard to achieve effortlessly. I’ve found that products that are advertised to give a natural, pink subtle look only look good on women of pale skin, and for women like me, we look hella ashy. Anyways, this woman talked about how the key is to play with colors, and for brown women, purple is our best bet. While it may not look like it from the outside but purple lip products can help us achieve that natural, pink lip. After hearing that tip, I was itching to buy myself purple lipgloss and that is when I found Stay Vulnerable Glossy Lip Balm in the shade, Nearly Muave. Let me tell you, this product lives up to its name. It truly feels like I’m wearing a lip balm that keeps my lips well moisturized while giving it a beautiful, pinkish tint that lasts for a long time. The best part is it’s also affordable and it’s worth every buck and maybe even more.
